Cardinal Principles

Everything we make and do should follow these five simple rules:

  1. Quality
We hold everything to the highest standards.
  2. Universal
We approach every issue by considering how it fits into the whole. Everything is connected.
  3. Innovative
We always consider alternative methods. We think creatively about everything.
  4. Designed
Everything is planned and created for a specific purpose and effect.
  5. Profitable
Money is better than poverty, if only for financial reasons.

Producing vast amounts of quality work is the norm. We reward them with lots of vacation time, surprise holidays, awesome gifts. They reward us with outstanding work.
    • We treat employees like the adults they are.
    • Our work environment is a great recruitment tool. When you combine fantastic benefits with a positive culture, it’s noticed.

  • Take care of ourselves first.
    • “When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world.
I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation.
When I found I couldn’t change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn’t change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family.
Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realize that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family. My family and I could have made an impact on our town. Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world.”
  • Innovate. Always be nimble. Be creative.
  • Create a financially viable, sustainable distilling company.
    • Our investors are happy, our employees are happy, our processes are sustainable.
  • Focus on great design in every aspect of business. Our building, equipment, processes, and products must be well-designed.
    • Design to inspire.
  • Contribute to the positive evolution of Bloomington and Indiana.
    • Create unforgettable events and experiences.
    • Non-profit wing creates amazing public projects.

Cardinal Crew

  • Have fun, learn something, do your best. Every day.
    • This was Quirk’s dad’s mantra as a t-ball coach, and it stuck with him his whole life.
    • If you’re not having fun, learning something, or doing your best, stop what you’re doing and do something else.
  • Treat products and people with care.
  • Reward good behavior with high fives, awesome gifts, awesome experiences.
  • Be open-minded.
  • Always be growing.
  • Each crew member is responsible for creating or refining something each month, outside of their daily responsibilities. Examples include: improving a coffee maker, creating a video for the web site, painting racing stripes on the forktruck, refining a process to make it more efficient, etc.
