BARBACK

  • An opportunity at our Bloomington restaurant/bar. Weekend availability is a must, with additional opportunities to barback and prep.

Cardinal Spirits barbacks possess a strong work ethic, great listening skills, ability to prioritize tasks, friendliness, and efficiency. They take pride in providing excellent service and are curious and excited to learn more about the craft spirits industry and craft cocktails. 

As a barback you will be responsible for aiding the bartender during service while performing the following duties:

  • Cleaning dishware and washing bar tools 

  • Prepping cocktail ingredients and garnishes 

  • Keeping bar area clean and tidy

  • Interacting with bar guests and taking customer orders

  • Stocking bar items such as garnishes, syrups, sodas, ice, and towels

  • Anticipating bartenders needs, especially during rushes

  • Assisting bartenders with all other tasks as needed

Requirements:

  • Be at least 21 years of age and able to acquire a permit to serve alcohol in the State of Indiana

  • Possess some service industry experience (bar preferred but not required)

  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and certain holidays & IU events

Compensation:

  • $14/hr + tips

LINE COOK

  • This position is located in Bloomington, Indiana, at our distillery cocktail bar.

OVERVIEW

Cardinal Spirits is looking for a skilled, responsible line cook to join our team. We are Bloomington's first and only craft distillery and ferment, distill, and bottle all of our spirits on-site. It's our goal to provide the community with high-quality spirits and great cocktails at a reasonable price. Alongside our spirits and cocktails, we offer a delicious food menu to complement our one-of-a-kind craft cocktails and spirits.

JOB DETAILS:

The position will require the learning and understanding of standard cooking techniques as well as learning the general knowledge and understanding of the local Department of Health (DOH) food safety standards. With time, a kitchen worker should be able to read and follow recipes, improve company standards, and train new employees.

The position is full-time, but part-time candidates are welcome to apply in case other opportunities come up.

We are looking for someone with these qualities:

Minimum Requirements:

● High School Diploma or Equivalent.

● 2 years of kitchen prep and or cooking experience.

● Able to work in a fast-paced and changing environment.

● Able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.

● Able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 12 hours).


SERVICE MANAGER

  • This position is located in Bloomington, Indiana, at our distillery cocktail bar.

As Service Manager you will be responsible for many duties during and outside of service. We are looking for a person who can be a leader to our service staff during hours of operation and support the management team with some tasks as well. You will need to be poised, objective, flexible in difficult situations, resourceful, an adept communicator and a great listener.

During service some of the duties you will be responsible for are:

Supporting the host:

● Answering the phone

● Using our reservation software to seat guests and modify floor plans

● Selling merchandise and product

Supporting the floor staff:

● Helping staff with discounts, comps, and coupons

● Checking in with guests and handling customer service issues

● Using our POS software to split/run checks and close out guests

● Running food, bussing, and barbacking if needed

Supporting the kitchen:

● Keeping staff aware of 86’s, counts, and modifications mid shift

● Keeping the POS up to date, making sure printers are functioning

● Keeping the kitchen aware of large party arrivals, flow of guests during the shift

Outside of service some of the duties you will be responsible for are:

Supporting the management team with various tasks

● Confirming reservations

● Preparing for special events, weekends, holidays, and product releases

● Inventory control

● Basic clerical duties

● Running various errands

Requirements:

● Be at least 21 years of age and able to acquire a permit to serve alcohol in the State of Indiana

● Minimum 2-3 years service management experience (floor manager, bar manager, front of house manager)

● OR Minimum 3-5 years of service experience (bartender or server) and/or

● Access to reliable transportation

● Be able to work some days, weeknights, weekends, and some holidays equating to at least 30 hours per week.

● Ability to attend weekly mandatory meetings each Friday

● Familiar with Google Suite (Drive, Calendar, etc), Point of Sale and reservation systems in general. Toast and Tock a bonus.

● Have proof of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination and booster

● Supply three (3) professional references

Compensation:

■ $17/hr

SERVER

  • This position is located in Bloomington, Indiana, at our distillery cocktail bar.

Currently seeking experienced server for weekday and weekend shifts. Pay starts at $10/hr plus tips.

You: You have a passion for people and illuminating for them what's behind each bottle, cocktail, and dish. You have several years experience as a server in a restaurant. Multi-tasking comes as second nature to you and you keep a cool head in a bustling work environment. You may not have an extensive knowledge of cocktailing, distillation, or casual-fine dining, but you are eager to learn. You function well in a team and supporting your coworkers is a high priority. You're the on the ground ambassador of all we do - you connect customers to our story through a memorable and meaningful dining experience.

OFF-SITE TASTING STAFF

  • Seeking tasting staff based in the following markets: Indianapolis, IN, and surrounding suburbs

YOU: You're helpful, friendly to strangers, and loving to friends. You have a few years’ experience in the hospitality industry, you're honest and proactive, and are driven to grow as a person and in your career. You take pride in providing excellent service and are curious and excited to learn more about the craft spirits industry and sharing our brand in your area.

You have a large personality and easily communicate with all types of people. You will be an ambassador of our brand at tasting events in your area, and will work closely with our sales team to meet our sales goals. You have regular evening and weekend availability, have reliable transportation, have or can obtain a licensed server’s permit or equivalent legal permit required by your state, and can lift and carry 25-40 lbs. 

About the job: You will visit liquor stores, set up a small display of Cardinal Spirits products, sample our products for customers, and encourage customers to purchase our products. You might also work an event from time to time, where you would work a booth at a larger tasting event. You’ll primarily pour samples of our products and share information about Cardinal.
